This morning, Blue Grass Energy sent an additional nine men with heavy-duty equipment to join the 42 other contractors from the cooperative to assist in repairing utility damage in the wake of Hurricane Irma. In total there are 51 workers from Blue Grass Energy, including tree trimming and contracted construction personnel.

The crews will be working for Central Georgia Electric Membership Cooperative, an electric cooperative serving over 54,000 members in 14 north-central Georgia counties.

Blue Grass Energy is one of several electric co-ops in Kentucky to send crews south to help restore power after Hurricane Irma. As of this morning, it was estimated that nearly one million people are without power in Georgia.

“We are an electric cooperative and this is what we do,” said Greg Harrington, VP of Engineering & Operations/COO. “We are happy to help our sister co-ops during their time of need just as they have come to our aid in the past”.

Relief crews are coordinated by the Kentucky Association of Electric cooperatives, the statewide service organization for the state’s electric cooperatives.
