Solar Education Project

In the last few years, pricing for solar (photovoltaic) installations has dropped and interest in renewable energy has risen. This equation has some Blue Grass Energy members wondering if a solar array is right for them.

When choosing to install a renewable energy project, it is important to understand how they work, what they will produce and their overall impact on energy consumption. However, the first step in installing a renewable energy source is to make your home is as energy efficient as possible. After all, it doesn’t make sense to spend a significant amount on a solar system that will provide electricity to power an inefficient home.

On April 6, 2015, we installed a small array of photovoltaic panels at our headquarters office located in Nicholasville, Kentucky to assist our members in learning more about potential energy generated from solar. These panels demonstrate solar power in use so that members can have a better understanding of the concept of residential solar.

Information on the output of these panels is gathered every 15 minutes, allowing the system’s performance to be evaluated in various weather conditions and at different times of the day. To view real-time energy production from our project, click here.

We want to provide our members the tools they need to make informed decisions. You are invited to stop by and view our project if you would like to know more about solar energy. For a list of frequently asked questions about choosing a photovoltaic system, click here.

Renewable energy education, it is just another way we are making life better, the cooperative way.
