For more than 87 years, Blue Grass Energy, a not-for-profit distribution cooperative, has delivered reliable energy services to over 61,000 members in 23 counties throughout central and north-central Kentucky. Headquartered in Nicholasville, Blue Grass Energy also has offices in Richmond, Lawrenceburg, and Cynthiana.
BGEnergy is provided with wholesale power from East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC), which also serves 15 other Kentucky co-ops.
In 2003, EKPC became the first utility in Kentucky to generate its own renewable power when it began operating its first plant fueled by methane gas from landfills. EKPC now has six landfill gas plants.
In addition, EKPC operates Cooperative Solar Farm One, one of the largest solar projects in Kentucky. Located in Winchester adjacent to Interstate 64, the 60-acre farm features 32,000 solar panels. The co-ops, including Blue Grass Energy, license these panels to members.
