Beware of scammers

Blue Grass Energy members are once again being targeted by scammers. Members are receiving phone calls from people claiming to work for Blue Grass Energy and demanding immediate payment to avoid service disconnection.

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be with Blue Grass Energy, remember the following:

Supreme Court temporarily blocks EPA's Clean Power Plan

On Tuesday, February 9, the Supreme Court temporarily blocked the EPA’s Clean Power Plan (CPP), which attempts to regulate carbon emissions from power plants.

The CPP would fundamentally change how electricity is generated, distributed and consumed in the United States. It targets coal, which is the main source of Kentucky’s electricity and would force utilities to use a different fuel source.

We are Prepared for Storm Related Outages

At Blue Grass Energy, we are hoping for the best but planning for the worst due to the heavy snow in the forecast. We are ready and on-call 24/7 to respond to power outages. We have a comprehensive outage management plan in place and when outage calls start coming into our office, we deploy a systematic approach to restoring power.

Be prepared for winter storms

When winter temperatures drop and storms hit, it can be challenging to stay safe and warm. Winter storm severity varies depending on where you live, but nearly all Americans are affected by extreme winter storms at some point. We care about your safety, and we want you to be prepared.

Blue Grass Energy is looking for the next generation of leaders

What do 1,500 high school students, our nation’s capital and electric cooperatives have in common? The Washington Youth Tour (WYT), of course!

WYT was established with one thought in mind – to inspire our next generation of leaders. Since 1964, more than 50,000 young Americans have taken advantage of this special opportunity offered by their electric cooperative.

Give the Gift of Energy Efficiency

When it comes to shopping for and comparing appliances and home electronics, look for the EnergyGuide and ENERGY STAR® labels to ensure the energy efficiency credentials of what’s in the box.

We are making improvements for you!

Tomorrow, December 10th, starting at 9 a.m. and lasting 2-3 hours, improvements will be made to the lines that provide your power. All power should be restored by noon. This is just part of our efforts to ensure you have safe, reliable energy.

Why do we have planned outages?

Occasionally, the equipment we use to bring power to your home needs to be replaced, repaired or improved. When this happens, as a way to keep our crews and you safe, we plan an interruption to electric service.

To help you through the interruption, we recommend the following:

Let's work together to support our communities with the 12 Days of Giving

Blue Grass Energy is hosting its annual holiday giving campaign called the 12 Days of Giving. Stop by from Dec. 1 through Dec. 16 - the first 12 business days in December - and help us support our local food pantries and the Kentucky Children's Hospital.

For the food pantries:

Bring nonperishable food items to any local BGEnergy office. The items will go to local pantry locations throughout our service area helping families in need during the holidays.

For Kentucky Children's Hospital:

Save energy this Thanksgiving

Many of us will be thankful for a delicious home cooked dinner next week. But did you know that cooking accounts for 4.5Benne% of total energy use in U.S. homes?  And that figure doesn't include the energy associated with refrigeration, hot water heating, and dishwashing. Added together, that means that as much as 15% of the energy in the average American home is used in the kitchen.

This holiday season, we wanted to share some easy ways to reduce unnecessary energy use while still enjoying all of your family’s favorite dishes.
