2013 Washington Youth Tour & Study Guide
The Washington Youth Tour is an all-expenses-paid trip to the nation's capital, where 10 high school juniors from Blue Grass Energy's service area will meet students from throughout Kentucky and the United States.
You'll spend one week in June touring the U.S. Capitol, the Smithsonian Institute, Arlington National Cemetery, the White House and numerous memorials and monuments.
You'll meet with Kentucky's national representatives in Congress and learn about electric cooperatives' role in national government.
But it all begins in Frankfort. You'll spend a day in Kentucky's capital, learning about their state government, touring state offices and meeting with elected officials.

Eligibility
Eligible applicants are high school juniors living with a parent or guardian who is a Blue Grass Energy member. Applications slips must be submitted completed by Monday, March 4, 2013; late applications will not be considered.
Rules for entry

3. All contestants are required to write a letter of 300 words or less to one of their elected officials on the topic of their choice. Letters are due with entry form.
4. All contestants will have an interview and will take a brief quiz on cooperatives at Blue Grass Energy's headquarters office in Nicholasville. Contestants will be notified of interview time after application is received. Study guides are included in the application pdf.

Scholarships - Deadline: April 1, 2013
2013 Scholarship Application
Blue Grass Energy provides $10,000 in scholarships to students in its service area every year.
Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities and financial need. They are one-time, non-renewable grants and are paid directly to the student’s chosen university, college or trade school.
Recipients will be chosen by May 3 and notified shortly thereafter. Recipients will be recognized at his or her school's end-of-year program and at BGEnergy’s annual meeting on May 30.
Eligibility
1. Eligible applicants are graduating high school seniors with plans to attend an accredited college, university or trade school, living with a parent or guardian who is a Blue Grass Energy member. Members of the immediate families of employees, directors and people receiving benefits from Blue Grass Energy are ineligible to apply.
2. Eligible applicants have a GPA of at least 3.0.
3. Applications must be submitted with all attachments and postmarked by Monday, April 1, 2013. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
Requirements
1. Completed application form, including financial information sheet (page 2 of application).
2. Page 1 of parent/guardian federal income tax form (please black out Social Security numbers).
3. Official high school transcript that includes most recent SAT and/or ACT scores, signed by guidance counselor.
4. A typed résumé listing school and class activities, including offices held, extracurricular activities, special honors and awards, plans for future education and career goals, and hobbies and special interests.
5. Write a brief essay (500 words or less) relating something special about you. Tell us something we couldn’t find out by reading your application and résumé.
